October Fun

We have continued learning many new things in a Room 107.  In Fundations we have been learning about digraphs.  A digraph is 2 letters together that make 1 sound. (sh, th,wh, ch, ck) we continue adding words each week to our list if trick words.  Keep practicing them at home!  In math we are working on solving subtraction problems.  We have learned different strategies to help us solve problems.  The strategies that we have worked on is using manipulatives (fingers, cubes), use a number line, or use known facts.  In writing, we finished our Starlab narratives.  After finishing our drafts we worked on revising and adding another detail.  Then we illustrated our finished piece.  Be sure to look for the draft coming home next week.

On Thursday, Pine Glen kicked off ASK.  This is a school wide positive behavior system.  ASK reminds us to ask ourself- Is it appropriate?  Is it safe? Is it kind?  Ms. Zanotti and Mr. Lyons talked about what this would look like in the hallway. We will be earning HOOT cards for following this! To kick it off Ms. Pavilcek even brought in an owl for us to see.  Each month we will be talking about different areas in the school and what we should look like while we are there.

On Friday afternoon, we celebrated all of our READO readers!  We were very impressed with all the fun reading that has been happening at home.  Be sure to check your child's folder for November's READO board.  This is a great way to make reading FUN!
