Room 107 Policies

I know that this year is going to be a big transition for both you and your child. I hope this page will help to ease your mind and answer some of the questions you may have. If you have any additional questions please don’t hesitate to contact me by email or phone.

Green Home & School Folder
The green Home & School folder will be sent home everyday with your child. In it will be important notes and information that you will need to read, and your child’s daily work. Please check it and take out any school work on a daily basis. The folder needs to be returned to school everyday with your child. If you have a note to send into school please send it in this folder as well. I will be checking the folders daily.

School Hours
Our school hours at Pine Glen are 8:35 -2:40. Our instruction begins promptly at 8:35 so please be sure that your child is on time and ready to learn. During the school year we have two scheduled early release days - November 25 and the last day of school. The hours for Early Release days are 8:35 - 11:30.

Absences
If your child is going to be absent, you MUST call the School Absentee Line 781-273-7644 before 9:00 a.m. on the day of the absence.  An answering machine will record your message.  Please leave your child’s name, grade level, teacher’s name and reason for the absence. Unreported absences or an absence called in without a reason  will generate a phone call to your home/workplace by the school nurse as a safety check on your child.

Room 107's Schedule
Please see the page titled Daily Schedule for Room 107's schedule. In first grade, the student’s go to gym, art, and music. Each day they will go to a different special for 45 minutes. Please note our gym days and remember to send your child to school dressed appropriately and in sneakers. For art, you may wish to send in an old shirt that they can wear during this time. The student’s will be able to leave the shirt at school throughout the year.

Bus Transportation
On the first day of school your child should turn in the bus form stating how they will be going home on a daily basis. This form is kept in school all year long. However, if your child needs to take an alternate bus home or is going some place other than home you will need to send in a request to me stating the bus number and who they will be going home with. We are unable to send students home a different way without note. If last minute changes do occur, please notify the office by phone.

Students Being Driven To/From School
Parents picking up or dropping off their child will need to stay in their car and follow the marked arrows to the horseshoe pick up/drop off location. In the morning your child will be sent inside the Kindergarten wing to wait until 8:00 and in the afternoon they will be waiting there. For dismissal, your child will be called outside to your waiting car as you arrive.

Lunch
The student’s lunchtime is 11:05. You may send in a lunch from home or your child may buy lunch. When sending in a lunch from home, please label everything including water bottles with your child's name. The cost of lunch is $3.00. This price includes an entrĂ©e, vegetable, fruit, and milk/juice. The online school news will have the weekly menu listed and it will also be sent home at the beginning of each month. If your child brings a lunch from home they may buy milk, and as 1st graders, they may also choose to buy a snack which includes a variety of chips and ice cream. You will need to establish an account at http://www.paypams.com/ in order for your child to purchase lunch or a snack.

Healthy Breakfast
Our schedule has been planned so that first grade lunch is served at 11:05.  This is perfectly placed in the middle of our school day.  I encourage you to provide your child with a healthy hearty breakfast before school to ensure that your child will be able to focus and learn throughout the morning.  Likewise, a healthy, hearty lunch is also recommended so that your child is able to maintain their focus and stamina throughout the afternoon.

Water Bottles
I recommend that you send in a water bottle to school that your child can leave on their cubbie.  At this time we do not have a working water fountain so this is a good solution. Please label the bottle with their name and make sure that it is a bottle that can be closed so we avoid spills.

School Supplies
Your child will need a backpack that is large enough to carry their folder, books, and lunchbox.  Your child will be given all the supplies they need to be successful in 1st grade.  I ask that they do not bring in anything extra as it often causes distractions and gets in the way of their learning.

Toys from Home
All toys, ipods, books, games, etc. should be left at home.  Often these items can become broken or may cause a distraction to your child and their classmates.  We have many exciting things in our classroom that I am sure we will always be busy and having fun.

Field Trips
During the year we will go on a few field trips. The field trips are meant to enhance the student's learning. You will need to send back the permission slip and payment in order for your child to participate. Unfortunately, not all of our trips allow us to bring chaperones but when we do the first grade teachers will send home a notice asking parents to volunteer. If you are interested, please be advised in advance that all chaperones must have a CORI on file with the Superintendent's Office in order to be chosen. Further details will be posted when a field trip is coming up.

CORI
During the year, we may be asking for volunteers to help in 1st grade.  In order to help at any school event you will need to have a CORI form on file with the Superintendent's Office along with attending a Confidentialty Meeting.  If you have already attended this meeting then you will not need to attend again.  All CORI's are good for 3 years.

Birthdays
The school policy regarding birthdays is as follows:
Due to the national focus on the health and wellness of our children, the growing number of students with food allergies, and the shortness of learning time during the school day, birthday celebrations at Pine Glen School will be food-free.  I will honor their birthday in a special way.  We are also unable to send home any invitations to birthday celebrations you have planned.

Scholastic Book Orders
Each month a book order will be sent home from Scholastic Book Clubs. These clubs offer wonderful books at reduced prices so it is an excellent way for your child to build their own book collection. It is not required but if you do choose to purchase books please make checks out to Scholastic Book Clubs or you may order books directly online. More information regarding this will be sent home with the first book order.
