Week of November 2

It was a busy week here in Room 107.  This week we began our next Fundations unit on bonus letters.  We learned why the letters f, l, s, and z are so special.  When we find these letters at the end of the word after a short vowel then we need to double it.  In math we finished Topic 2 and began Topic 3.  We will be looking at ten frames and what the relationship between 5 and 10.  In writing we shared our finished Starlab narratives.  We have begun our own personal narratives. Everyone has chosen their small moment that they will be writing about.  I am very excited to hear everyone's story.

On Wednesday we had the opportunity to attend the NED Show.  All of Pine Glen was highly amused and engaged in this assembly.  The NED Show is a character education program that focuses on 3 important traits.  NED is the cartoon character who helps us remember these three traits - Never give up, Encourage others, and Do your best. We learned how to be a champion both in and out of school by remembering NED.  What kept us so engaged were the stories and the use of NED's yo-yos!  Your child may ask for a way to earn a yoyo because they will be on sale at Pine Glen until Friday, November 13.  We learned that Pine Glen got to experience the NED Show thanks to not only Ms. Zanotti but another school who had raised money from their yo-yo sales.  We learned that we too could "pay it forward" by purchasing yo-yos so another school would get to see the show.  It is a wonderful program with a valuable message.  If you would like to help bring this program to another school and your child would like their very own NED yo-yo you may send in money in their green folder.
