Weeks of November 9 and November 16

We have become writers in Room 107!  The past few weeks we have been very busy working on our very own personal narratives.  We have drafted and revised our writing.  We will finish publishing them next week.  We worked very hard to add good details and make it interesting for the reader.  You will be seeing the draft sent home in your child's folder soon.  In math we finished Topic 3 and learned about the relationship between 5 and 10 and other numbers.  For example 7 is 3 away from 10 or 5 and 2 more.  In Fundations we have been learning about glued sounds.  We have learned 3 new sounds: -an, -am, and -all.  When these letters are in a word they get "glued" together and while each make a sound those sounds may change slightly.  We have been listening to Ready, Freddy! - Thanksgiving Turkey Trouble.  We are excited to find out if Freddy will show up as the turkey in his classes Thanksgiving play.  Listening to chapter books is a great way to get students excited about different books.  Your child does not always need to read the words on the page but they can listen to you. We have talked about how it is nice to just listen to a book for fun and enjoyment sometimes!  When we do this we just get a chance to listen and we know that we will not be writing about or answering questions - it is just for FUN!  There are a lot of great early chapter books out there and I encourage you to find one and read it with your child for fun.

Don't forget that next week is a short week!  The blog posts below have further information about what is coming up in Room 107 over the next few weeks.
