Weeks of February 22 & February 29

We have had a couple of great weeks back since vacation.  Last week we began our researching for our own Informative Report.  Each student in researching one mammal, either a raccoon, skunk, or bat, so they will be able to write their own Informative Report.  Some of us stayed in Room 107 to research raccoons but some of us went to Room 104 or Room 107 to research bats and skunks.  In Fundations we continued to learn about blends.  A blend is two or more consonants that blend together where each letter is making a sound. We have been working with a 120 Chart in math to see number patterns and for skip couting.

This week we had a fun time celebrating Dr. Seuss' birthday. Each day we enjoyed a mystery reader who would share the book of the day with us.  We loved dressing each day in theme.  You can see more about Suessville week in the post.   In Fundations we were introduced to digraph blends.  These blend a digraph with another consonant.  Some examples of a digraph blend crunch and shrub.  In writing we began our draft of our mammal research paper.  We need to remember that each section needs to begin with a topic sentence, uses only our researched facts and ends with a closing sentence.   We are working on using sentence variety.  This is where we begin each sentence in a different way.  This can be very tricky but everyone is doing a great job!  We have five sections in our paper so we have been doing a lot of writing!  In math we finished up our topic on using the 120 Chart and will be moving onto place value.

Just a reminder that we do go outside everyday for recess and this time of year can be tricky to figure out the weather.  It is best that students have coats, hats or mittens still in case it is cold out during our recess time.
